Hi....To increase my knowledge of STINGRAY I've ordered some new books. The first is an ANNUAL.
I've owned this 1993 Annual many years ago and now look forward to enjoying it again. Just love the cover with the Terror Fish taking a pot shot at Stingray and missing- also the Artwork including the Captain Troy Tempest and WASP crew - and the dastardly 'Titan' and 'Aquaphibian'.The second book I've ordered is about all the Collectables related to all the Gerry Anderson TV Shows- I'd imagine that this book by Rob Burman will include the 1964 Stingray collectables.
Well that is my news for tonight.
Very much enjoying STINGRAY.
Until later- Cheers. KEV.
If I remember rightly they used real goldfish in some of the underwater shots .
ReplyDeleteTONY,
DeleteA lot of the underwater action scenes were filmed through a slender Fish Tank- the Fish were real and rather small- not sure if the species were Goldfish. Very clever ideas used for producing STINGRAY. Cheers. KEV.
Great stuff Kev - I remember Stingray a bit from my childhood although not as distinctly as Captain Scarlet and Thunderbirds. There was also Joe 90, which I do not believe we ever had on TV in Scotland at the time, I certainly never saw it. I didnt have any Stingray toys but definitely had all the Dinky or Corgi Captain Scarlet vehicles - red pointy patrol car and a white vehicle with gull wing doors for transporting radioactive material or some such! There was also a blue one that fired a missile from the front and had Captain Scarlet himself hanging on a seat inside a side door that sprung open when you pushed down on some concealed switch! I have often been tempted to buy some of the "Timelift" Security team on 7TV by Crooked Dice Miniatures (see here https://crooked-dice.co.uk/product-tag/time-lift-security/) - as they are obviously very closely based on Captain Scarlet - they even have female fighter pilots who would be the girls who flew the Angel Interceptors off the Cloudbase - a kind of aircraft carrier that floated in the sky (Airfix even made a plastic kit of the interceptor jet and I had a cardboard model of the whole Cloudbase!) All fun memories from about 50 years ago :)
ReplyDeleteKIETH,
ReplyDeleteGlad that you have re-lived your memories of Gerry Anderson's CAPTAIN SCARLET and can recall clearly those great appealing Corgi Toys from your early years. We didn't have a TV until late and I was only able to catch parts of the THUNDERBIRDS in black and white between studying for school- love it- all the Puppets and modelling- just fantastic. My interest in STINGRAY is very strong- ever since about 1993 when a huge amount of Andersonia was about- an absolute re-surgence at that time. I thank the Gods that I now have STINGRAY on DVD in full color- just a fabulous show. I also have Firball XL5, Thunderbirds and UFO on DVD...I intend to track down a DVD of SUPERCAR as well. STINGRAY was produced in 1964 and has certainly been a cracking production. Thanks for calling in KIETH- certainly appreciate your interest in CAPTAIN SCARLET. Cheers. KEV.
Great looking books Kev, on a very interesting and exciting topic! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteBRAD,
